Attending Your First RV Meetup & RV Rallies: What to Expect

Adventure Bandits RV Meetup - Bash and Glamp-Out

What to Expect and Why You’ll Love It

If you’re new to the RV lifestyle—or even if you’ve been traveling for years—attending your first RV meetup can feel exciting, intimidating, and a little unpredictable all at once. We’ve been there.

Outside of large, manufacturer-hosted rallies, there’s a whole world of RV meetups happening across the country. Many are organized by YouTube channels, content creators, and everyday RVers who simply want to bring people together. You’ll find them online through YouTube, Instagram, Facebook groups, and community pages, often announced months—or sometimes weeks—before the event.

So what should you expect when you pull into your first RV meetup?

A little chaos, a lot of connection, and an experience you’ll likely want to repeat.

Expect the Unexpected (And Embrace It)

One of the first things to understand about RV meetups is that most of them are not professionally orchestrated events. They’re organized by people just like you—RVers juggling logistics, weather, campground rules, and last-minute curveballs.

That means:

  • Event times may shift
  • Activities may change locations
  • Plans may evolve on the fly

Weather, campground restrictions, and local regulations can all cause adjustments. The key is to go with the flow. Flexibility is part of RV life, and meetups are no different. If you arrive expecting perfection, you may be frustrated. If you arrive expecting adventure, you’ll have a great time.

Don’t Overbuy Food (Trust Us on This One)

This is one we’ve been guilty of ourselves.

When attending an RV meetup, less is more when it comes to groceries. You’ll likely spend more time than expected at group activities, social gatherings, and impromptu hangouts. Many events include shared meals, food trucks, or hosted dinners—and somehow, food and drinks always seem to appear.

One of the most popular activities at many RV meetups is the camper crawl—think of it as a potluck on steroids.

During a camper crawl:

  • Participants host a small table or set up at the edge of their campsite
  • Guests stop by for a quick snack or specialty drink
  • Offerings can be alcoholic or alcohol-free—both are welcome

You can participate by hosting, visiting, or both. Either way, it’s one of the best ways to meet fellow RVers, strike up conversations, and build connections in a relaxed, fun setting.

Be Open, Introduce Yourself, and Build Connections

RV meetups are all about community.

Be open to meeting new people. Exchange contact information. Join conversations—even if it feels a little outside your comfort zone. Everyone is there for the same reason: to connect with others who love RV life.

These relationships often extend far beyond the meetup itself. You may:

  • Find someone willing to lend a hand down the road
  • Get advice on routes, repairs, or destinations
  • Plan future trips or meetups with new friends

Some of our most meaningful RV friendships started with a simple “Where are you from?” at a campsite.

Capture the Memories and Stay Connected

Bring your camera—or your phone—and take lots of photos and videos. RV meetups are full of moments you’ll want to remember, and sharing them helps keep the community connected long after the event ends.

Most meetups have:

  • Facebook group
  • Online communities
  • Hashtags for sharing content

Join them. Post your photos. Comment on others’ experiences. It’s a great way to relive the event, stay in touch, and discover future meetups you might want to attend.

Why RV Meetups Matter

For us, RV meetups transformed our experience on the road. What started as solo travel evolved into something much bigger—a sense of belonging and community that made RV life feel like home.

If you’re on the fence about attending your first RV meetup, our advice is simple:

Go. Show up. Be open. You won’t regret it.

You may arrive as a stranger, but you’ll likely leave with new friends, shared stories, and a deeper connection to the RV lifestyle.

And who knows—it might just change the way you travel.
